The winter months are creeping upon us fast, which provides the perfect excuse to head indoors and discover some art. Here are some of the most notable exhibitions from around Australia.

This world-premiere Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition charts the extraordinary career of Pablo Picasso in dialogue with the many artists, poets and intellectuals with whom he intercepted and interacted throughout the 20th century.

This is one of the most comprehensive presentations of art by Australian women ever assembled. It looks at moments in which women created new forms of art and cultural commentary (such as feminism), and highlights creative and intellectual relationships between artists across time.

The Archibald Prize for portrait painting is the country’s favourite and most significant art award. The Wynne Prize is awarded to the best landscape painting of Australian scenery, or figure sculpture, while the Sulman Prize is given to the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project in oil, acrylic, watercolour or mixed media.
