Australia’s world-class period ensemble – The Australian Haydn Ensemble – is bringing its performance of Beethoven’s Fifth across NSW and Canberra.
The Ensemble continues its exploration of historical arrangements of Beethoven’s masterworks on period instruments. Get up close and personal with Beethoven’s mighty Fifth Symphony, as the septet reveals surprising new intensities.
The ensemble’s upcoming concert is centred on a modern-day premiere of Watts’ chamber arrangement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony for string quintet plus flute and double bass.
This specific arrangement has not been performed on period instruments since about 1820 to our knowledge, and there are no recordings of it.
The performance will also include timeless compositions by renowned maestros, Luigi Boccherini and Ferdinand Ries
An immesive and momentous experience, these chamber arrangements were extremely popular in the 19th century as they were used to program salon concerts, played at home and generated significant income for composers who made these familiar to a wider audience.
