Experience Cowra’s ‘Golden Fields’ Five Ways this Spring

Spring is the ultimate time to take a journey through the agricultural heartland of Cowra NSW to witness the golden fields of canola transform the landscape.

This year there are five unique tours and experiences for visitors including the Fields of Gold Tours, Sunset Canola Tours, Canola Balloon Flights, Scenic Canola Flights and a magical Twilight Dinner in the Canola.

The season runs from August to October (crop depending), so it’s a blooming time to plan a visit.

Cowra’s canola season five ways: 

  • The two-hour ‘Fields of Gold Tours’ guided bus tours offer photo stops at canola hot spots and a historical town tour. They run on weekends from 9am to 4pm from the Cowra Visitor Information Centre. Cost $55pp.
  • The 1.5 hour ‘Sunset Canola Tour’ is a unique guided tour to see the canola at the most magical time, when the sun sets, and finishes with a glass of Antonio’s Prosecco! Cost $65pp. Friday 27 September to Sunday 6 October.
  • The magical ‘Canola Balloon Flight’ takes you up in a hot air balloon at sunrise for a bird’s eye view of the canola fields and the Belubula Valley. Cost $340 with Balloon Joy Flights and finishes with a champagne breakfast.
  • The ‘Scenic Canola Flights’ with Fly Oz offers a dazzling view of the canola from a plane and flies over Wyangala Dam and Canowindra. Cost from $195pp for 30mins.
  • The ‘Twilight Dinner in the Canola’ is held on Sat 7 September at Glencara, Home of the Rustic Maze, and features a local food, wine and beer and dancing in the then canola field, as the sun sets. Cost $160pp.

Cowra Tourism also expressed the importance of safety when canola touring. “We ask that our visitors be mindful that canola fields are on private property and are not to be entered. The best way to capture the best shot is by booking a Canola Tour.” said Kurt Overzet, Cowra Tourism Manager.

Visitors should take care when driving on roads and highways, ensuring they take care when driving and parking as they enjoy Cowra’s stunning landscapes.
